Currently

There is no "app" for writing a research paper.
No magic Pinterest DIY TRICK to write the paper faster, although a DIY research paper is GENERALLY the most academically acceptable paper.
And in case you were wondering, there is nothing research paper "helpful" on Youtube, hulu, netflix, so-and-so's blog, cell phone or facebook. I have tried them all today, twice. NOTHING. So all that is left is FINISHING MY PAPER.

Things in my life:

~ Saw Andrew McMahon (Formerly of Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate) in concert a few days ago. EXHILARATING. Thrilling. And all things delightful.
~ School. Aforementioned research paper, and various crap discussed for the sake of furthing my academic edification by choking down liberal propaganda.
~ I start a new job next week
~ Husband started his new job a few weeks ago, and loves it
~ I moved to PX.
~ PX is big.
~ I don't generally like moving, boxes, paper, chaos, and having to organize from scratch.
~ I do like bubble wrap. A great deal. Oddly enough there is an app for that...
~ I turn 25 soon. Tragic story.

Brain Rattles

I hope I never get tased. I kept trying to type tazed.. .but I think it is tased. Either way I hope it never happens to me. That would be awful.

My cats are way cooler than your cats. Probably any of your other pets too. You have no idea.

I dread my cellphone plan expiring.

Every time I have to click " i accept these terms" on the computer, I get chills of terror down my spine.

I will google you.

Someday, I hope to be made into a brilliantly funny meme. Ok maybe not. but maybe....hmmmm

Sometimes I think things like; "If Aladdin and Jasmine or Prince Charming and Cinderella ever met me and my husband they would be insanely jealous."

Just for kicks, because I lived it. Gratuitously, for you.

sniff

Associations. I hate chicken soup. Let me clarify, I hate HOME-MADE chicken soup....why is that? minus my aversion to raw meats in general, (too many anatomy books a kid I assume) for some reason unless chicken soup is hidden among an un-imaginable amount of sodium, chicken soup creates a nauseatingly tingle in my body. Why Kate? Why are you so weird? why this unhealthy aversion to something so very wholesome? Simply the timing of a bad stomach flu when I was....5 years old. Perhaps this is childish, but some of you may be all-to familiar with how our mind associates.

Smells.
The smell of rosin, sweat, tights and hairspray= my ballet bag.
The smell of rubber, sweat, and feet=My martial arts days.
Vanilla=smells amazing in it's own right. And to me smells like Pinterest.
Tea tree oil= my comfort oil, reminds me of my mamma and makes me thing of late-night snuggles when I was being sneaky up past my bedtime and she was taking care of her skin....
Our dirty laundry=my husband, comforting and safe.
Desert after Rain=Smells like love

The smell of chicken soup=stomach flu
You get the picture.

wonderful days

Yesterday was wonderful. After one of my half day at one location, half day at another, it was only 3:00 pm and I had felt like I had made good use of my work day at both locations. I completed an hour at the gym, then wandered to the library where I caught up on the latest in Marie Claire and Vogue, then chose a few novels I thought I could knock off quickly in between clients in these slow summer weeks. My husband met me at the library, and we both solemnly killed time in the quiet, cool sanctuary of literature. (the sanctuary seemed less disturbed by bums and cell phones than usual) When it was time we drove to the Udall swimming pool for some lap swimming. The cool water melting off the boiled sweat of the Tucson day. We always gasp our way about how out of shape we are but keep going nonetheless; chatting in between lengths about what’s for dinner, random news of the day, and the mountain of laundry accumulating at home. My laps always become steadier, and my breathing more even  as I remember my swim lessons of old; I envision my tan darkening, and I only get kicked once by Joseph in our shared lane...impressively.
And on the drive home I can’t help but think I would be so wonderfully happy and content if life went on like this forever. Just the two of us intertwining our schedules, planning swim dates, wine and a redbox on any given night we choose; sleepovers in the living room, arguing over paint and the proper way to load a dishwasher...perfection.  I wonder if children would ruin our little world, then I mentally slap myself for such a selfish SELFISH thought, for I know so many people would look at our life with an “ohh poor things, they don’t know how awesome it is to be parents.”  And we would look right back with a quiet sigh of temporary relief. That being said, in the stillness of these “perfect” days I sometimes feel a tug, a tick, a mental reminder to enjoy these moments because it will pass, and I will be just as happy and content in a different type of wonderful.

I did it.

I just hit submit to an online application that I had been avoiding filling out. Not for lack of desire, but for the fear and insecurities that have been bubbling inside me these past few weeks.

The last time I filled out a "university" college application, I was with my mother, it was a HUGE deal for me.  I was on the "senior-itis high" only an 18 year old high school student would understand,  on the brink of change, freedom and with the world's oyster at my fingertips.

That was over 6 years ago. Kate and the University of Arizona did not get along as well as expected.
I made some friends I didn't fail my classes, but saying God was trying to transition my life is an understatement. I was miserable. I was hanging out with sad, miserable people, and I was trying to force myself into learning and becoming proficient in subjects that I quickly learned I had no interest in.  I was going through a "messy" break-up, and became miserably sick, all not half-way through my first semester.  I think God was trying to get my attention.

Fast forward  to 2012. I have a fulfilling job, a trade skill I enjoy and am told have talent in. I own my own business, and work for 2 others; and have been happily married for almost 3 years. But it is/was not at all where I expected to be...in so many ways I feel like a failure.

Lately, I have had to come to terms with my failure as a humbling experience God worked together for the good. And yet he provides me with the means for getting together my unfinished business.

I will not be my own academic inferior. I will achieve my goals, (unless God wants to change them again) I will do it with a good attitude, and not let the shadow of my failures darken the light of the road ahead.

A day in the life...

Sometimes I hesitate when people ask me "what do YOU do?" I hesitate for a number of reasons although I am a massage therapist, and proud to say that I am indeed, a licensed massage therapist who specializes in pain management and an orthopedic style of therapeutic massage...Some days when heading home from a super long day at *insert whatever k8 actually does here* I think back on my day and wish there was a better title for my job.

There is no typical day, but here is an example of a recent one.
Get up, prep, pack, feed kitties, leave sleeping cute husband to be at my first job by 8:15. The office space which I rent a treatment room I also do office work. I shred files today, refilling clear plastic bags for proper recycling of said shredded material over and over. Miscellaneous projects never the same. Today I fix the vacuum cleaner by cleaning out the caught carpet edgings and hair wrapped in the vacuum front roller...thingy. As I sit on the floor with dust flying about me, I think of the networking meeting later today, and wonder if the "nicer" outfit I have on, and make-up etc will stay in tact 'til evening. Disinfect office touch-ables, set up my space for the day. My first client arrives at 9:45: an extreme chemical sensitivity case; today I am hoping she doesn't sense I wore deodorant, which could jeopardize the whole treatment. The 30 minute treatment goes for almost an hour, but this client is a Christian and because of her chemical sensitivities can no longer fellowship in groups, so I always schedule extra time for her for prayer and chatting. Then back to office work; data entry and scanning documents and sorting until next client arrives. Built like a football player with some intense muscles spasms, this one is a workout for me. Broke the spasm cycle but clearly the inflammation will take a while to get back to 100%. This frustrates my psyche....

It is now 12:30 and I leave and head to my other job. Emails, phone calls; go over website design changes, work on a new article for a new section of the website still under construction. Read over newsletter draft. My next client: 90 minute deep tissue trigger point and rotator cuff maintenance, surgery prevention. Help boss finish adding 220 emails to our list and upload them and send out our first newsletter! Minor glitches included a conference call with our website designer.

I then check outfit for residual cat hair vacuum dust, and oil stains. Make sure I smell pretty and head to a 'soiree' networking hour with other LMTs who are, like me, are a Beta tester for a new "massage scheduling website" just launched. Thank goodness they served appetizers, it was my dinner.

8:15 and I am headed home.

No day of mine is the same, it keeps life interesting... Just thought I would let you know.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I love my birthday.

Let's chalk it up to my parents spoiling me rotten. My vague memories of birthdays years past include daddy hiding "my birthday dress," which he usually picked for me himself, wrapped somewhere in the house. Playing hot'n'cold with dad searching for my present is as fond a memory as our hours playing ice cream girl..
As far back as i can remember dad would print "happy birthday Katelyn" signs an tape them around the house with balloons. Mom compensated with elaborate tea parties and petit fours the years dad was unavailable for my special day. I remember my favorite "smelly jellys' for my growing feet many years, and various relatives making a spring visits with added early or belated celebrations JUST for me no matter when they showed up. Call me the princess, call me spoiled, whatever you wish, but on March 24th please oh please call me the birthday girl!

I appreciate my husband playing along the entire month of march....with "ok, because its your BIRTHDAY!" and this year he went overboard with thoughtful gifts he showered me after work yesterday. Then we shared a delightful afternoon and evening with friends.

This year had me particularly excited, my golden 24th on the 24th of March! it will only happen once in my short little lifetime :-)

What a delightful day!

duplicitous

My new $5 word.

Things in our lives have taken a turn, and I have re-evaluated my goals for 2012 and am finding a new found motivation and excitement! But saying I have a "LOT" to do or on my plate is an understatement. I hope i haven't bitten off more than I can chew.

First order of business is finishing my OMERI certification. This should have been done a year ago. I am so close yet so far.

I guess I should have said my first order of business is optimizing my house. We are in 2012 project reorganization. I need to make better use of my the space provided in my lovely home, and i have the burning desire to make our "Cottage" prettier. The hubby has agreed to some little mechanical changes as well, I am motivated and excited: Closets, cupboards and storage rubbermaids BEWARE!

Katniss

Introducing
Our newest edition.

Believe me when I say, I am mortified that we have both our cats declawed. However, our kitty soft paws can fight each other or my feet all the want, and do very little damage.

Thursday, January 19, 2012

And my answer to that of course is no.....

Life is like a box of chocolates... if God was holding the box saying "Take any one you want!" and every time you reached in to pick one he snapped it closed saying "NO, NOOO that is the coconut one, I'm saving that for Billy!"

Joseph didn't get his "dream job." And it is ok. He told me last night, that moving to phoenix is still on the table... well, I think a more accurate description was him cursing Tucson... but still! I WANT TO MOVE. I think. I don't know. I KNOW. No I don't...

Anyways, so back to the grind of job hunting. It is nice to have the luxury of job hunting when God is providing all our needs with the many jobs he's given us.....

Here is hte email I sent to the fam.....

"Appreciate your prayers for Joseph throughout this interesting time of interviews and tests galore. It is finished. God's answer was a no and Joseph has since clearly moved on.

He took this one like a champ... grateful for the opporunity an confident that there were many qualified guys who tested with him. Yesterday, a day he had taken off for interviews... he did laundry, cleaned the house, vacuumed and made a pork roast. I cried for an hour, threw a fit, and colored my hair.

Bible study was last night at UofA, the topic was Providence. Joseph had much to say on the subject and was such a blessing with his lightheartedness and humor, as well as biblical insight. What a guy!

Lots of jobs in the works for him to apply to in the finance realm. Here's to dusting off his resume, calling in some favors, and learning how to better number crunch for a living!"

So now we move on....whatever that looks like.

Equal Opportunities

One of the most challenging struggles I have faced in marriage is just how selfish I am. How some days, when I feel my whole life revolves around Joseph's life, what he needs what he desires etc, i just want to go do my own thing! (like my ways are wiser *eye roll*) I, without cause mind you, feel like my life is to be shelved forever. This is the furthest thing from the truth mind you. And it ANGERS me, that these thoughts even enter my mind. HOW DARE I?!?!
I was reminded of Genesis 3:16
To the woman he said,

“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;

iin pain you shall bring forth children.

jYour desire shall be for6 your husband,

and he shall krule over you.” ~Genesis 3:16

My desire is to be a leader, but place is to be a help meet, my proper place is to have my husband rule over me, but my sinful nature keeps it from always being a willing act.

I never considered myself to be selfish, I always thought I desired to be a side kick... and I do cherish my unique place next to my husband! I just didn't think I would struggle so much holding off plans and decisions to see what would happen with "someone else." I always thought I was prepared for Proverbs 31 "wife-ing." How sin loves to deceive me... Being faced with a mirror of your own self-serving desires can be frightening. How can I truly be a 'good wife' when my innermost heart has such selfish motives at times?

I have so many goals and ambitions, and I am fine with plan B's and contingencies; God's plans are always more perfect than a planner/dreamer like me can ever imagine. But letting go and letting God,can be such a struggle. Why can't I just trust that God's plans are perfect? And with a godly leader in my house, why do I not trust God working in his decisions for what is best for our family? Where did my 'feminist' tenancies come from? I have never felt the desire to 'do my own thing' more than I have in the past few months. I have wanted to run away with my own selfish goals...I feel pent up and ready to ...to.... I don't even know how to complete that sentence. Because, let's be honest....does it really matter? I am so blessed, so loved, and respected. I want for nothing. Besides, I don't even know what I truly want.... all I know is that the only calm I find is in Christ; when He shows me my clear path. I just feel my path is a little murky... I am sure some light will be shed soon.

So, I have my plans. I have my prayers for Joseph. Valley of Vision by the bed...
My ramblings end now.

Old hat

Life revisited: painful but fun. I used to have a blog. And before that I had a good old fashioned journal. As you can see below, I like to quote myself from previous journals, in whatever journal method is current. To, as I say below, "realize that you may HAVE grown in the past 3 years! Thank God." Ha ha, try over 5 years little K8.
This is a Xanga entry from August 2006. ...

Answered Prayer

"Well it is pretty much official; I am an only child. Zack moved to Tucson this morning and left me behind forever." - The Diary of Kate Fink 10:00 p.m. 08-22-03 (This is me, in my xanga, quoting a journal from 3 years previous haha)

Almost three years ago I sat in the back seat of the truck, turned up Avril Lavign as loud as I could, and cried. The 3 years that stretched before me seemed an eternity...long hours and days, with my parents...I was a tragic case of lonely for almost a full year. I know this from re-reading my journal from this time. There is nothing like an old journal to make you realize that you may HAVE grown in the past 3 years! Thank God.

So, this is the-Week, the week I have been praying for, for SO long. The week I just assumed would NEVER come because I wanted it so much. Well, I survived high school. I am now motivated, dedicated and ecstaticly awaiting my start at the University of Arizona!

Just to give all my dear friends an idea of how I am preparing myself, here is few of my MISSION STATEMENTS to keep my focused on aspects of my life such as my spiriutal, academic and relationship lives. Please don't condemn these kate-originals...I tried.

Spiritual: I ultimately desire to serve God to the best of my fallible ability; striving to put my personal relationship with Christ as well as my spiritual, theological, and doctrinal development first in every aspect of my life. SEMPER REFORMANDA!

Academic: Academic priorities must remain at a heightened level of sensitivity at all times. Habitually and enthusiastically perfecting grades, study habits, and overall academic knowledge; never forgoing the common sense approach of critical thinking and wisdom found beyond secular teachings and textbooks. Spiritually analyzing and applying learned academia to outside research, conversations, and life.

Relationships: Any and all feelings and actions towards members of the opposite sex must be a non-existing entity, in as much avoiding any and all emotional drama; unless otherwise specified by parental units. If any type of group maintained friendship ensues, it must remain indifferently platonic; all flirting and eye contact is prohibited save in any preconceived decision, and/or any extremely caffeinated situation.

Ok, so we all know the last one is a little jaded, I still like J as most of you know, but the whole 'remain indifferently platonic' still holds true in that situation.

So, to my high school years which I thought would never pass, you will not be missed. Hello, new phase of life...God DOES answer prayers, in His Time, His Will etc.

Luvsyas

k8

So as you can see..... My biggest goal in life was getting out of high school (as a homeschooled person this is hilarious) and go to college. I also loved my brother very much, desired to serve God, kick butt in school, and liked a guy named J.

I love those little Mission Statements. My spiritual goals wouldn't change much at present; my doctrinal development still has much to be desired!
My academic ones are laughable as I turned out to be a U Of A drop out... funny as you can see above it is what I had longed for SO long! And God had other plans, and thought for K8, learning the hard way was the most effective method... ugh I hate Latin. And I only like reading mythology for fun.

ahhh relationships. The guy referred to as J (NOT MY HUSBAND JOSEPH) was not an "indifferently platonic" relationship, but ended as only high-school relationships can end: Dramatically, tragically and with broken hearts. Flirt, I did for a few months in college, caffeinated it's true, because I didn't drink with the rest of them. But God kept a pretty tight reign on me, 12 months after this post was published, I was in pursuit of my current career as an LMT, I had just met my husband, and would be engaged a few months later to a godly man who seemed to reign in my 'wild' side. Joseph brings out the realistic, capable, and confident side of me.

So, wonder where 5 years from now I'll be?

A new year always makes me contemplative about the future and the past. Thankfully, I never mourn about the way things used to be, the present state of life God has me in always far superior to where I thought I was going. Go figure.

"For xgodly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas yworldly grief produces death" ~ 2 Corinthians 7:10

randomonium

After Christmas with the Fink's on the 23rd, the Faiths on hte 24/25...we had our own Faith Christmas celebration complete with leftover wine (from Thanksgiving) Dark Chocolate, my new Snuggie and the Final Harry Potter movie. Oh and Sniper joined in the fun of course.

What a handsome kitty he is... minus these cuts on his chin he keeps getting, once this antibitoic runs out he had better stop getting them! I don't know what he is playing with that's so sharp!
The best thing about the Holidays is time spent with my family. I am happy for every moment snuggled on the coach with my hubby...then tucked into mom and dad's spare room and waking up to the noisy laughter and cut ups of my brother next door. I love the creative gift ideas, (including my Newsies sheet music!) and the theology books exchanged every year. I love the cookies and the fellowship. Christmas parties with the church that include a cranberry martini, might be an added tradition in the years to come! And the Faith family get together's become more and more enjoyable as I integrate into their traditions.

Although, nothing beats my old school schedule and multiple weeks off for watching Christmas movies and baking, but I am sure not all my years to come will be as hectic as this year was. However, clients and continuous work are on my Thanksgiving list of course so no complaints here!

Getting excited about bringing in the new year....

I tried....

I meant to post this a while ago. Oh, well.

I LOVE to read blogs....sometimes they inspire emotionally, spiritually or palate-ally?? is that a word ?? anyways I love http://nodesperatehausfrau.blogspot.com/ she is inspiring in her commitment to her walk with the Lord, her husband, and being a great homemaker. And I feel as if I KNOW her thanks to Sierra Vista's 4 degrees of separation...haha

She posted a delcious looking recipe a while back, perfect for hard-working, busy husbands. http://nodesperatehausfrau.blogspot.com/2011/11/supply-and-demand.html. She whipped it together to freeze for her hubby during the week. So effortless and they looked delicious!
I wanted to do the same.....

I NEVER make cooking look easy...

They were tiny...mis-shappen.... and they took me over 3 hours. Yes.....3 ... hours. Cara I may not be, but my hubby did think they were delicious! Just not an entire afternoon delicious.....

This just goes to show me, that I need to practice...cooking should be like learning piano right? 12 years of classical training and I still can't sit down and play "Happy Birthday" ..... yikes.

"Prayer is not simply getting things from God, that is a most initial form of prayer; prayer is getting into perfect communion with God. If the Son of God is formed in us by regeneration, He will press forward in front of our common sense and change our attitude to the things about which we pray." --Oswald Chambers

Teaching me still.... and oh how my prayers have changed in the past year. Although I am still utterly amazed with how I seem to beg God for answers, when prayer isn't about the results. It's about the time spent with the Lord, and enjoying all that brings! Why does that get so shelved in my life? An odd sinner this girl is...

"We lean to our own understanding, or we bank on service and do away with prayer, and consequently by succeeding in the external we fail in the eternal, because in the eternal we succeed only by prevailing prayer. "--Oswald Chambers

Thank you Oswald Chambers for the nice wake up call.

Prayer and Petition

"I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears." ~Psalm 34:4

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe you have received it, and it will be yours. ~Mark 11:24

"Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desired of your heart." ~Psalm 37:4

They say red cars have the highest rate of theft...

My car was stolen today.... Miss Cherry Ames..

And I got her BACK! It was a complicated mess, with the best case scenario turn out, because I have a graciuos, gracious heavenly Father!

So far, it looks like a homeless woman wandering the church courtyard (spotted and spoken to by pastor) took my keys out of my bag in the Sunday school room during church, and drove my car to a liquor store. Unfortunately by purse was in my car.

After sunday school, I couldn't find my keys, many church members were helping until one of my friends went looking to see if they fell out of my bag in the parking lot, and my car was gone! My phone indicated missed messages from my husband, who had seen some strange liquor store purchases on our account. Thank goodness my husband knows i don't generally frequent the liquor store during church hours!

I immediately cancelled all credit cards, and notified the police.

I felt so violated, but was surprisingly calm. After having my dad in the hospital last year, something as trivial as a car theft seems a bit silly for me to freak out over.

However, I am so grateful for the support of my church. Two men from church went looking for my car.. and FOUND it! Keys laying the cup holder, purse and everything still there! (well, about $60 cash from a good tip week was missing, and my red aluminum card case and credit/debit cards) And Miss Ames was perfectly in tact! Not a scratch! Steelers dice still swaying in the windshield, even the driver's seat hadn't been adjusted! My driver's license, which had been in my purse, was shut up in the middle console. I thanked God that I cleaned out my ipod and some accumulated sundries that morning from my car!

Within 4 hours of my car being stolen, between Joseph and some church guys, they found my car, ID'd the woman who took it, locating the video tape and exact transaction time she used my card ( a clear videotaped picture of her using my red aluminum wallet)

So minus some cash, and a few transactions at Walmart, Frys, and the liquor store that won't be charged against us because of our timely cancellations, this was the 'best case care theft scenario.'

After we settled everything the cops showed up and finalized the details. They were impressed my car hadn't been trashed. I think it even looked cleaner, I wonder if she vacuumed for me??

God gives us material things, they are gifts not rites. I am glad that being faced with the fact i may not have had transportation during this crazy 4 job time for my family, I managed to 'sorta' keep it together as I waited for the Lord to show me His divine plan for today. Only He can grant that peace and comfort during a trial like that.

So, similar to how I felt after being rear ended at the beginning of the year, I feel nervous and skittish, but this too shall pass. And, if anything, as my husband says, maybe I finally learned to NOT leave my purse in the car.....oops

Fabulous

The past few days have offered a wide variety of time with my husband.

on October 30 we celebrated a wonderful pre-Reformation Day celebration with Grace church and Covenant (our church) with a picnic at Huachuca Oaks in SV. FUN! Lots of fun food and fellowship! And I loved having my two church families collide. My brother and lovely sister-in-law also came down from PX to celebrate.

Sunday, for the 4th year in a row i helped with the Making Stride Against Breast Cancer event providing free massage to the survivors which is always fun. And then in the afternoon Joseph and I enjoyed seeing the Tucson Ballet perform.
This week I made an new batch of pico de gallo, salad, and mixed veggie salad fixins' ...we grilled up some chicken last night and enjoyed a glass of wine for the first time in ages.
It has been glorious having such 'down' time with hubby. Our lazy morning included the early bird special at a movie theater and lunch a Skee ball tournament.

Life is good. The situation is a bit stressful in the sense that we kind of feel like we are in limbo transition......
Here is a cute example of my husband in a daily basis. I think this is his 'stressin' bit, but he says playing with his hair is just.. SOOOTHING....
He mumbles at the end something about "why are you making fun of me" which I was NOT. ;-)

hm

Now that I have been investing more time into our house, Joseph and I were excited to start being a bit more hospitable.
And yesterday was the first time we've hosted in quite a while; the 'church guys.' We had a blast, I did most of the prepping and cleaning, but this time it was Joseph who did most of the cooking. Steaks on our grill, green and yellow squash, green beans, & corn. YUM. chips and my home-made pico de gallo, and cheesecake brownies for dessert!

We had such a fun time of fellowship and fun, however, the damper on the day was Pittsburgh losing their game :( Sad pandas all around.

And then Joseph and I enjoyed a nice quiet evening together. We watched a documentary, which spurred bedtime debates. And this morning he's off to his 48 hr shift at the STFD. Guess I'll see him Wednesday .....

The new AC, even though it was a "painful" decision has been a good investment so far. Glad that is finally fixed.

October brings lots of fun/interesting things.... Job search activities for J including a 3 day testing process out of town. Making Strides volunteer event and extra shifts due to a sick co-worker for me. Reformation day picnic in SV and tickets to Ballet Tucson!
